Material approach

The surface.
The system.
The application.

ChamIR™ addresses the way a surface emits infrared radiation. The integration task is to connect the material or device response with the platform’s thermal conditions, controls, power constraints, and required operating behaviour.

Potential application areas

  • Ground-platform surfaces
  • Personal and field-equipment concepts
  • Adaptive infrared systems

Application examples are integration opportunities. Suitability and performance depend on evaluation for the specific use.

How it works

The material mechanism

ChamIR™ uses electrically controlled material and device approaches to vary infrared emissivity. Emissivity describes how strongly a surface emits thermal radiation; changing it can change the apparent infrared signature without being equivalent to cooling the object.

Integration considerations

The device, its electrical connections, protection layers, and control method need to be considered together. Start with the platform’s surface temperatures, available power, coverage, and desired response.

Evidence for the next step

Characterize the response in the relevant infrared bands and operating conditions. Follow material measurements with a representative assembly to evaluate control, durability, and integration.

01

Thermal baseline

What surface temperatures, operating states, and backgrounds define the application?

02

Control & power

What interfaces, response behaviour, and available power should the system accommodate?

03

Physical integration

What limits apply to coverage, attachment, environmental protection, and repair?

04
