AMD Completes R&D Work for BAE Systems

Advanced Material Development is delighted to announce the completion of a package of research and development work for BAE Systems. The programme, conducted over 12 months, has entailed the design and development of a novel nano-material, multi-parameter sensor, capable of being printed onto a range of solid and elastomeric substrates, the characteristics of which could potentially provide a cost effective, lightweight and unobtrusive insight into the structural health of the device on which it is printed.

Based on AMD’s graphitic high conductivity inks, various 2D material formulations, electrolytic gels and sensor topologies have been trialled, culminating in production of a small number of devices for further testing.

Throughout the work, AMD has paid particular attention to scalability and the design is ready to be optimised following further testing.

“This was a great collaboration between the engineering teams at BAE Systems and AMD, resulting in a novel, prototype sensing solution currently being evaluated at BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems facility in Rochester, UK.” said Richard Lee, Chief Commercial Officer of AMD.
