Following the successful completion of its DASA funded program “2D Graphene Based Coatings for Enhanced Adaptive Camouflage”, AMD is delighted to announce the granting of European patent EP4301697B1. As a result of this groundbreaking project, the company has identified multiple applications both in defence and the built environment for its dual-use technology. The initial development program resulted in a state-of-the-art device that demonstrates a significant drop in apparent or observed temperature. The technology has significant potential in a number of military applications in the area of Thermal Signature Management for both platforms and personnel.

The technology will also be further developed to provide solutions for the smart thermal management of the built environment such as increasing the infra-red solar reflectance in hot climates to mitigate the effect of high intensity sunlight. The manufacturing is achieved as a printable solution, which provides for a scalable, low capital manufacturing cost.

AMD CEO John Lee said, ‘It is great news to have secured the second granted patent family for AMD – this reflects upon our approach of filing good solid, novel IP with very real-world applications, which are core to the AMD theme. We look forward to receiving approval in further jurisdictions outside the EU in due course and will continue to develop leading edge proprietary solutions for customers, whilst providing protection for valuable technologies.’

AMD’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Professor Alan Dalton, added ‘I am incredibly proud of the strides we have made with adaptive camouflage materials and devices. The successful completion of this project and our new patent underscore the cutting-edge research and innovation at AMD, as well as the effectiveness of the collaboration with my team at the University of Sussex. Our technology not only holds transformative potential for military applications but also offers significant benefits for smart thermal management across various other sectors.’
